The Met Office say that the UK is on course for a possible heatwave with a hot and dry summer saying that it will be "warmer than average temperatures and near or below-average rainfall."
The topic of climate change is constantly in the news as water becomes scarce. It is time for every gardener and lawn owner, groundsman or greenkeeper should start planning an alternative strategy than just pump unnecessary amounts of water into the ground.
We see all too often turf and garden professionals and amateurs constantly battling with either excessive rainfall in the winter, which in turn causes waterlogging leading to restricted access to playing and ornamental areas, or scorch and die-back as the soil bakes hard in the summer, as turf and treat roots retreat into a dormant state; trees can become stunted and grass development and recovery can be thwarted.
It does not have to be this way. Treating tree and turf root zones using our Airforce Terralift machine can alleviate two types of problems during the winter and again through the spring and summer.
Waterlogging
With the probe breaking through compaction panning to one metre depth, the dried milled seaweed injected on the tail end of the air blast will expand and contract with the moisture content in the soil, helping to keep the fractures and fissures stay open longer. Surface water will be able to reach one-metre fairly quickly before percolating deeper. Courses and pitches can continue in play without the loss of revenue.
Drought
Save on bills for importing water. Using the specialist Airforce terralift machine to inject water storing polymer with the dried milled seaweed will make use of available water in the soil. Using the treatment now will get the products up and working so they are ready to cope with the drought/rain/drought conditions being forecast.
The costs savings are also notable – after all you have addressed compaction panning to one-metre depth, relieved water logging and injected the polymer to save water – this combination lasts for at least 7 – 10 years.
Trees will be less stressed and saved from die-back or even Phytophthora (water borne condition). The cost of replacing mature trees is expensive and time consuming; to first reduce the crown, then when the tree has died - cut down the dead tree, chop and chip the tree to manageable sizes and take away to an approved site, remove the stump and find/replace with another tree of similar size. Save the tree in the first place.
